This recipe makes a chocolate cake-like dessert with a chocolate sauce underneath that forms as it bakes. Perfect served with vanilla ice cream.
Chocolate Upside Down Pudding Cake
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/4 cup sifted cake flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 ounce unsweetened chocolate
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- Topping:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 cup boiling water
Procedure
- Preheat oven to 350° F.
- Sift together sugar, flour, baking powder and salt. Melt butter and chocolate together; mix with milk and vanilla. Stir into flour mixture. Add nuts and blend thoroughly. Pour into greased round decorative cake dish.
- Top as follows with topping: Mix sugars and cocoa. Spread evenly over cake batter. Pour boiling water over the top. Bake for 1 hour.
- Serve with sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Notes
Make sure the water is boiling hot for best consistency.
