Pastry Sampler Shop: Asymmetrical Star Tips
The #71 star is an asymmetrical one, where the tip points don't form a uniform circle at the tip end like the other stars. I also reference this tip series as star jardiniere or leaf star because these stars create great leaf designs when doing floral works in buttercream. The 71 tip has an extra notch on the flat side, like the 72 and 73. The 74, 75, 76 do not.
Used flat side down, this produces flat shell-looking borders and star piping designs. Used star side down, this produces beautiful petals for flowers and interesting leaf designs. Used on it's side, this tip creates pretty asymmetrical piping designs and scroll work.
These don't get a lot of fanfare, but these are very handy tips to have in the pastry tool box.
The tips in this series: 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76.
Tip #71 has 5 points with an extra notch on the flat point.
This tip works with the small coupler or the 7-piece coupler.
