Baking
Powder Biscuits
This is a basic recipe, without sugar.
2 c flour,
sifted |
1/4 c
shortening |
1 T baking
powder |
2/3 to
3/4 c milk |
1 t salt |
|
Preheat
oven to 375°F.
Sift
dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening until mixture has
texture of corn meal. Add in 2/3 c of the milk and stir quickly
to make a soft dough, not sticky. If dough is too stiff, stir
in remainder of the milk. Turn dough onto floured surface and
knead about 10 times. Roll out to 1/2 to 3/4 inch thickness, and
cut into rounds. Place 1 inch apart for crusty biscuits, and closer
together for softer biscuits. Repeat with remaining dough: press
together, roll out and cut. Bake for about 12 to 15 minutes or
until browned.
